Duke (3-0) vs. North Carolina Central (1-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why North Carolina Central Will Win
The Eagles are really, really aggressive. They’re fantastic at getting into the backfield, and they’re outstanding on third downs, ranking second among all FCS teams in third down D, allowing teams to convert just 14% of the time.
The pass rush cranks up four sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss per game, and the Duke offensive line will allow teams into the backfield once in a while. But …
One Reason Why Duke Will Win
NC Central’s offense doesn’t move the chains. The D might come up with a slew of stops, but the O doesn’t do enough with the opportunities.
This is a tune-up game for a Duke offense that was more than fine in last week’s win over Baylor, but needs a little work with QB Daniel Jones gone.
Fill-in Quentin Harris only hit 12-of-30 passes for 174 yards against the Bears, but he threw three touchdown passes and ran for 83 yards.
This week, he needs to use the game to start bombing away and get the timing down to get ready for Virginia Tech.
What’s Going To Happen
Praire View just got roasted by UNLV 46-17, and it lost to Rice to start the season. That same Panther team hung up 40 on NC Central in a 16 point win.
Duke won’t have any issues, using this game to get the depth involved, and again, help Harris to lock in a bit more with the passing game.
