Conference USA Fearless Predictions, Game Previews: Week 2

UAB (1-0) at Coastal Carolina (0-1)

Time, Network: 7:00, ESPN+ | Get Tickets
Venue: Brooks Stadium, Conway, SC

UAB couldn’t have played any better in the 52-0 win over Savannah State, but everyone plays great against Savannah State, Coastal Carolina will do better passing than the 1-of-17 day the Tigers came up with against the Blazers. CCU’s Kilton Anderson did a nice job in the blowout loss to South Carolina – all things considered – hitting 11-of-13 passes, but they didn’t go anywhere. He’ll have more success this week.

The UAB offense will be balanced and effective, holding on to the ball for stretches and owning third downs. But at home – after losing to UAB in a fight on the road last year – the Chanticleers will keep it close, but they won’t be able to go on the big drive needed late to pull it off.

Maine (1-0) at Western Kentucky (0-1)

Time, Network: 7:30, ESPN+ | Get Tickets
Venue: LT Smith Stadium, Bowling Green, KY

After a frustrating day against Wisconsin, the WKU offense should now start to go off. Maine was able to miss dealing with a strong passing game in the 35-7 victory over New Hampshire, but it’s about to deal with an offense that’s about to explode.

The Black Bear defense dominated the Wildcats, but the WKU passing game that was held under wraps in Madison will start to look like it’s supposed to. It’ll be a  bit of a shootout, with Hilltopper QB Drew Eckels coming up with well over 300 yards as he and the offense takes over late in the third quarter.

Fearless Prediction & Line

Prediction: WKU 37, Maine 20

FIU (0-1) at Old Dominion (0-1)

Time, Network: 7:30, beIn | Get Tickets
Venue: SB Ballard Stadium, Norfolk, VA

With more important things to worry about – FIU running back Anthony Jones and offensive lineman Mershawn Miller were victims of a shooting on Thursday; the injuries aren’t expected to be life-threatening – the Golden Panthers will still try to get going in Conference USA play after battling hard in a 38-28 loss to Indiana.

Can Old Dominion bounce back after getting destroyed by Liberty 52-10? The defense wasn’t even close, the offense couldn’t get anything going on the ground, and the game got out of hand in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter.

This week, the offense will be better on the ground, but the Golden Panther passing game will be just effective enough to keep things moving. It’s a game the Monarchs need to have at home, but FIU’s defense will come up with the big takeaways in the fourth to seal it.

Fearless Prediction & Line

Prediction: FIU 31, Old Dominion 26
Line: Old Dominion -2, o/u: 51.5
ATS Confidence out of 5: 3
