All isn’t completely and totally lost for some teams after a disastrous Week 1.
Maybe they played someone amazing. Maybe they had an off day. Maybe the schedule is about to get a whole lot better. These are the five teams – if yours isn’t included, there might be a few big issues – that should quickly bounce back from a the rough first weekend, starting with …
5. Louisville Cardinals
At least 120 other teams would’ve suffered the same fate kicking off the season against Alabama.
So the Cardinals lost 51-14 in Orlando to the best team in college football. No shame there.
But the passing game actually sort of worked a wee bit. It wasn’t enough to make it a game, but Jawon Pass was able to keep his head under the pressure, he threw for 252 yards and two scores, and the team didn’t quit.
There will be a running game again. There will be better days for both lines. But first, the Cardinals have to stop playing Alabama.
That part they can handle.
With Indiana State and Western Kentucky up next, they should be able to come back in a hurry before having to face a dangerous date at Virginia. However, that’s a winnable game, as are home dates with Florida State and Georgia Tech.
Going to Clemson is an issue, and the team isn’t good enough to take any game in ACC play lightly, but yes, Louisville is going to be good.
Alabama just so happens to be all-time great.
