Boston College (3-0) vs. Purdue (0-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why Boston College Will Win
Some teams don’t know how to win, and Purdue is one of them.
The Boilermakers have lost three straight winnable games at home, partly because they couldn’t close, and partly because of bad penalties and plays in inopportune times.
The run defense couldn’t handle Missouri’s ground game last week, and gave up four rushing scores to Northwestern in the opener. The Boston College running game should go off.
AJ Dillon has picked up where he left off last year, QB Anthony Brown has been brilliant, and the offensive line has been fantastic.
The Purdue passing game might have cranked it up last week, but the quarterbacks now have to deal with the BC pass rush led by Wyatt Ray, who’s coming off a four sack day against Wake Forest.
This is a solid BC team that doesn’t have a whole lot of flaws, except for …
One Reason Why Purdue Will Win
Blocked kicks. Purdue has come up with a few of them this year, and Boston College has had too many special teams meltdowns with four kicks getting blocked – three punts, one field goal – so far.
That’s just the kind of break the Boilermakers need in a big, big way.
Yeah, BC has been great, but it helps to play UMass and Holy Cross. Wake Forest made it interesting late last week, and now it’s up to the Boilermakers to bomb away and test the Eagle secondary.
David Blough hit 71% of his throws for 572 yards and three touchdowns against Mizzou last week, but it wasn’t enough. Now, a desperate Purdue will keep the pressure on from the start.
What’s Going To Happen
Don’t assume Boston College is going to roll just because it’s 3-0 and Purdue is 0-3.
Purdue is better than its record – even though, of course, you are what your record is – with a passing game that’s about to give the Eagles a whole lot of issues.
The run defense will have problems with the Eagle backfield, but BC doesn’t own the time of possession battle.
This is where the Boilermakers finally get the win they’ve been so close to getting. They’ll rally past the issues on the lines, they won’t commit the bad penalty this week, and they’re not going to go 0-4 at home.
