2. Texas 19, Kansas State 14
After Texas rolled through great performances against USC and TCU, it needed to be ready for a test. It needed to be pushed around a little bit to get ready for the showdown against Oklahoma.
And it got pushed and pushed hard by Kansas State.
This wasn’t about Texas being sluggish or mediocre as much as it was Kansas State coming up with a strong game to stay alive late.
Texas showed up in the first half with a Collin Johnson touchdown catch, but the running game didn’t work. The line didn’t generate enough of a push until it absolutely had to at the end, but the O was saved by Sam Ehlinger spreading the ball around and keeping the chains moving.
Kansas State played hard, but it needs to get its identity back.
The running game wasn’t there, the offense only managed 217 yards, and the special teams lost the battle by giving up a punt return for a score.
But the Wildcats made it a grind.
Texas is learning how to win now. After not getting the job down against Maryland, it’s finding a way to get through games.
Now it has to find ways to get past Oklahoma.
