Auburn (2-1) vs. Arkansas (1-2) Game Preview
One Reason Why Auburn Will Win
This is the game for Jarrett Stidham to go off.
He had to deal with two phenomenal defenses in Washington and LSU over the first three weeks, and now it’s target practice time against a miserable Arkansas secondary.
The Hogs were hit or 389 yards against Colorado State and 281 against North Texas, and they’re simply not making any key plays happen. So far, the Tiger O line has been solid at keeping Stidham relatively clean against the elite defenses.
Arkansas needs several breaks to go its way, and it’s not going to happen. Auburn is averaging over 42 yards per punt, and Arkansas is struggling averaging 29 yards per kick. The last thing Auburn needs in this game is good field position, but …
One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win
So what is Arkansas doing right?
The punting game might stink, but with a limited sample size, Deon Stewart has been effective on punt returns.
Yeah, the secondary is having problems, but the run defense has been okay thanks to a line that’s getting into the backfield. The pass rush hasn’t been anything great, but there are just enough tackles for loss to be effective.
Auburn has a few fumbling issues, and it’s last among SEC teams in penalties, getting flagged over eight times per game – Arkansas needs all the help it can get. Arkansas leads the conference with seven fumble recoveries – it’s going to need them.
What’s Going To Happen
Will the move to Ty Storey at quarterback jumpstart the Arkansas offense? The Auburn secondary isn’t allowing a slew of completions, but it’s giving up yards. Storey has to roll for at least 300 yards, but that’s going to be a stretch.
Stidham will hit the 300-yard mark, but it’ll be the defensive front that takes over the game right away. The Hog offense that’s struggling so much to keep the chains moving will whiff on way too many third down chances. And that’s when Stidham and company will kick it in.
The Hogs will get behind early, start throwing, and then the mistakes will come.
