Arkansas (1-3) vs. Texas A&M (2-2) Game Preview
One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win
So what’s working for Arkansas so far in this awful start to the season?
The defense has been fantastic against the run – it leads the SEC allowing just 2.7 yards per carry and not allowing 100 yards in any of the last three games. Colorado State and North Texas can’t/don’t run, but Auburn? The Tigers were stuffed last week, outside of the three short scores.
The passing attack hasn’t been consistent, but it’s hitting on a few plays down the field, the defensive line is getting into the backfield, and the takeaways are coming.
The Texas A&M line has been a bit too leaky so far, ranking last in the SEC in sacks allowed, and that hasn’t helped the turnover margin. The Aggie D has just one takeaway so far.
One Reason Why Texas A&M Will Win
The Arkansas offense is woeful. Considering new head coach Chad Morris is supposed to be the guy who gets the passing game going, scoring 47 points in the last three games isn’t okay.
Yeah, the A&M defense isn’t taking the ball away, but Arkansas will do its best to give it up, giving up nine picks with six against North Texas two weeks ago. The passing game hasn’t come up with a touchdown over the last two games, and there’s a whole lot of dinking and dunking, averaging around just 4.5 yards per attempt.
Yes, the Aggie offensive line hasn’t been a rock so far, but shock of shocks, that’s what happens when you play Alabama and Clemson – this really is a good front five.
A&M has been fantastic at controlling the clock and the tempo, and it’s getting a strong season out of QB Kellen Mond. He predictably struggled against the Crimson Tide, but he still scrambled for 98 yards and a score. He’s about to hit 65% of his passes and make big things happen – again.
He ran for 109 yards and threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the 50-43 shootout win over the Hogs last year.
What’s Going To Happen
Don’t expect the shootout fun of last season’s game, but this week, the Arkansas offense will finally put up a few points.
And Texas A&M will put up a whole lot more.
The Hog D is trying to do its part, but it’ll break down in the second half after Arkansas keeps it close in the first. Two good drives will make this seem like a game, and then the turnovers will come, and then A&M will pull away.
