Arkansas (1-1) vs. North Texas (2-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why North Texas Will Win
The offense has been phenomenal.
What more could you possibly want to live up to expectations so far? The best passing game in college football? After two games, that’s what the Mean Green have, and it’s about to go up against an Arkansas secondary that got carved up by Colorado State last week.
This isn’t just some wing-it-around, fast-paced team, either. It’s going on controlled marches, it’s winning the time of possession battle, and it’s not screwing up, with just one turnover in the first two games.
Granted, beating SMU and Incarnate Word isn’t anything to get too fired up about, but the Arkansas secondary has hardly been special.
One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win
The Hog defensive front needs to get behind the line.
North Texas might have a machine of an offense, but it’ll give up plays in the backfield. The Arkansas defense hasn’t been great, but it’s been able to come up with tackles for loss.
UNT QB Mason Fine can’t get comfortable, and the Mean Green offense can’t control the game. Arkansas has the passing talent – no matter which quarterback is handling the attack – but it needs to get the ground game going again.
Against Colorado State, the O ran for close to 300 yards with Devwah Whaley going off. The UNT defensive line has yet to be slugged in the mouth. Arkansas might like to get going through the air, but the tougher it can get, the better.
What’s Going To Happen
North Texas is going to be a problem.
The offense is for real, the talent is there to put up big numbers on the board, and the passing game is going to hurt the Arkansas secondary. But in a must-win game after last week’s clunker, the Hogs are going to be a wee bit stronger and they’re not going to melt down like they did in Fort Collins.
This is where Chad Morris comes up with the win he needs to have early in his tenure – even if it’s a bit rocky.
