Red Wolves Pick-Off the Rebels 27-20
Defense delivered the Red Wolves’ third win of the season.
In a miserable, unrelenting deluge of merciless rain, the Arkansas Red Wolves slogged their way to a 27-20 win over the UNLV Rebels. Once again, it was the defense that pulled Arkansas State out of the fire of disaster, racking up three picks – two from sophomore Jerry Jacobs – off Rebels quarterback Armani Rogers.
The Red Wolves took a rickety 13-6 lead into halftime thanks to a pair of TD passes from Justice Hansen, who finished the evening with three scores on 199 yards passing. But the Rebels put up 13 points in the third, taking a 20-19 lead into the fourth. But a 39 yard scamper from freshman Marcel Murray ended the Rebels’ uprising.
The defense won the game for the Red Wolves, limiting the Rebels’ Rogers to only 23 yards in the air. But it was the Red Wolves’ ground game that continued to evolve, with Marcel “Oui Oui” Murray leading the team with 93 yards and a TD.
The Red Wolves enjoy their finest OOC season in recent memory, entering conference play with only a 57-7 loss to Alabama blemishing the season. Red Wolves take on Georgia Southern in Statesboro next Saturday.
