Arizona (0-1) vs. Houston (1-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Arizona Will Win
RUN … THE … BALL.
The Wildcats only ran it 35 times against BYU, and only allowed Khalil Tate to crank up eight carries for 14 yards. The offense tried deep shot after deep shot with limited success.
This is a good coaching staff. It’s going to adjust.
However, even though the Cats are going to get their star on theme a bit more, they’re going to be able to throw on the Houston secondary that gave up 292 yards and three touchdowns against Rice.
Rice can’t throw for 292 yards and three touchdowns against air.
It took way too much effort to put away the Owls, but the cougars won 45-27 because it cranked up the offense in the second half. If this gets into a shootout, Arizona is more than equipped to keep up.
Especially with the ground game – even against Ed Oliver and this defensive front.
One Reason Why Houston Will Win
D’Eriq King started out hot.
The Houston dual-threat quarterback completed 17-of-24 passes for 320 yards and three scores, and ran for 33 yards and a touchdown. Considering BYU’s questionable offense was able to overpower the Arizona defensive front in key moments, and it was able to move the ball when absolutely needed, the Cougars shouldn’t have a problem coming up with a big offensive day.
And yeah, while Arizona will try running the ball, Ed Oliver is Ed Oliver.
He led the Cougars with 13 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss in a yet another dominant performance. Considering how shaky the UA line is, Mr. Oliver is about to be in for a big day.
What’s Going To Happen
It only Week 2, but it’s desperation time for an Arizona team that has to quickly get past a miserable first game. It will.
Tate will start to look amazing again, and the Wildcat offense will come up with the game it was supposed to have against BYU. But Houston will keep up the pace until the end.
It’s going to be a fun, thrilling game with massive momentum swings, and in the end, Kevin Sumlin will get past his old program. His backfield will carry the Cats.
