Alabama (1-0) vs. Arkansas State (1-0) Game Preview

One Reason Why Arkansas State Will Win

The Red Wolves aren’t going to be afraid to bomb away.

Justice Hansen is coming off a brilliant 423-yard, six-touchdown pass ay against SE Missouri State, and while that’s not exactly like playing Alabama, it was yet another massive day for the Red Wolves’ offense.

It hit the ground running – or more to the point, throwing.

ASU has talented receivers for Hansen to spread the ball to, and the program is used to being able to keep the pressure on for a full four quarters. It might have been a year ago – and there are a whole lot of new parts – but the Red Wolves were really, really close to shocking Nebraska to start last season.

They’re going to be more than just a nice scrimmage for the Tide.

One Reason Why Alabama Will Win

The ASU defensive front is about to get beaten up.

The Red Wolves have decent linemen, but they’re not all that deep, and the linebacking corps is just okay. Just okay leads to blowout losses to Alabama.

Both Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are going to play, and the offense will work just fine with both of them.

Tagovailoa will be sharp again with plenty of time to throw, and Hurts will be far more effective at moving the offense – he’ll see a bulk of the playing time in the second half. Get ready for the running game to blow past the 300-yard mark.

What’s Going To Happen

Here’s the big concern: Nick Saban was grouchy at times at his team’s pass defense.

The run D gave up just 16 yards against Louisville, swallowing up everything that came its way, but the secondary gave up a few big plays against a Cardinal passing attack that finished with 252 yards.

Hansen will throw and keep throwing, but get ready for Bama to make a concerted effort to lock up the secondary to get ready for the Ole Miss game up next.

The ASU offense isn’t going to do a thing until the Bama D takes its foot off the gas.
