5. The “other” games

The Power Fivers took center stage, but there were a few notable moments …

Steven Montez is ready to have a big season. More to the point – after what Hawaii’s Cole McDonald did – any quarterback going against Colorado State is going to have a big season. Montez connected on 22-of-25 passes for 338 yards and four scores as Colorado destroyed the Rams 45-13.

Duke got up early on Army … this isn’t a Knight offense built for comebacks. The Blue Devils won 34-14 on a 13-of-17, 197-yard, one score day from Daniel Jones. He ran for 43 yards and a touchdown, too. Army was held to 168 rushing yards.

Look out, world. The Nevada offense is working. At least, it did in the 72-19 win over Portland State. Ty Gangi threw three touchdown passes, McClane Mannix caught three scoring throws, and the Wolf Pack Air Raid O ripped off 636 yards.

That’s EXACTLY how Eastern Michigan wanted to start. It roared against a not-that-bad Monmouth team, winning 51-17 as Iowa transfer QB Tyler Wiegers completed 18-of-21 passes for 238 yards and two scores. The Eagle QBs combined for 302 yards and five scores.
