Week 0 was more fun than anyone thought it could be. But now it’s time to really get this thing going.

Rice got pushed by Prairie View A&M, Colorado State and Hawaii got into a shootout, and Wyoming’s defense put on a show in the win over New Mexico State.

Again, that was solid – now the Power Fivers get a warm welcome into our 2018 college football season.

And a defending national champion gets to play, too.

It’s time to go to work, everyone.

This is all just for spits, giggles, and entertainment purposes only, however, just in case you dabble …

The UCF offense is going to go really, really fast. Under new head coach Josh Heupel, QB McKenzie Milton should put up astronomical numbers this season, but UConn is about to have a little fun at home, too. A lot of people got fat on riding the Knights throughout last season, but on the road with all of the big changes, that 23.5 point spread is a big number.

However, there’s a chance UCF hits the 72.5 by itself if everything clicks right. I actually like the under here, but I hope I’m wrong – I want a shootout. I’ll sacrifice the pick to see a wild and crazy American Athletic firefight.
UCF vs. UConn Preview

Minnesota, destroy New Mexico State. No dinking around. No moral victories. No tuning up, feeling out, or putting the pieces in place. Win, and win easily. You’re the Big Ten team. Act like it.

The Wyoming defense might be terrific, but New Mexico State’s offense isn’t going to be anything special – that ugly loss showed it. It’s Year Two under PJ Fleck, and it’s time for the Gophers to start showing signs of life by taking this down by at least three touchdowns.

Minnesota RB Rodney Smith will run for 200 yards, but it’ll be freshman walk-on quarterback Zack Annexstad who’ll get the headlines.
NMSU vs. Minnesota Preview

Everyone is telling me to take Northwestern. Purdue has plenty of key pieces to replace on defense, and it might take a little while to get everything together, but …. the Boilermakers are at home.

Jeff Brohm is the next big thing head coach, he has his quarterbacks, he has the firepower, and … the Boilermakers are at home.

The will-he-won’t-he aspect of Clayton Thorson probably doesn’t matter as much as it might seem. If Northwestern wins this, it’ll be because the defense comes up with a big performance and the O line works.

It’s a Northwestern game. It’s going to be close, but Purdue is only giving up 1.5 … at home.

Last year’s game was a 23-13 Wildcat win. It’s not going to be a shootout this year, either. Go with the under on the 52.

Me thinks the investing public is making too big a deal out of Wake Forest not having Kendall Hinton at quarterback. The Demon Deacon offensive machine should work just fine, especially since it’s about the coaching and parts as much as the players. True freshman Sam Harman has had time to prepare – he’ll be fine.

Can the Demon Deacon D get behind the line? It was fantastic at coming up with tackles for loss throughout last year, but it didn’t always bring the results. Get into the Tulane backfield early and often, and the option attack will stall out.

Sure, investment-type people. You want to take the line down from 7.5 to 6? Well … if you insist. And I didn’t get you anything.
Wake Forest vs. Tulane Preview

There are seven FCS vs. FBS games on Thursday night. That’s exactly what you should do to get into a season – considering there aren’t any preseason games. Here’s what you need to sort of care about …

– How does Ball State look with the parts back? Injured throughout last year, it has a full team again. However, it’s going to be in for a fight against Central Connecticut State.

– In Year Two under head coach Brent Brennan, San Jose State needs an easy win. It’ll get by UC Davis, but be worried if the offense doesn’t hang up at least 35.

– Kennesaw State will either beat Georgia State, or come really, really close. I’m not sure what you do with that, but this game might just be worth giving a look.

– This isn’t quite the Savannah State of the past few years, but it’s still going to get annihilated by UAB by at least 30 points.

– Weber State is more than just a speed bump for Utah. How does the downfield passing game look for the Utes? Which receivers emerge? Will there be more defensive pressure? Don’t get hung up on the final score, though. It might be a wee bit closer than Ute fans might like. If it’s not, things are humming out of the gate.
Weber State vs. Utah Preview

– Okay, Oklahoma State. Get angry. The defense will do its part against an okay Missouri State team, but all eyes are on the Cowboy offense with new parts to the passing game. All that matters is that star RB Justice Hill gets as little work in as possible – he needs to be healthy for bigger things. Oh yeah, and it would be nice if the quarterback situation looks okay.

– You’re not going to watch it, but the big wacky game of the night might just be ULM vs. SE Louisiana. These two could combine for 70 points. Warhawk QB Caleb Evans is worth the price of admission.

AND FINALLY …

Is anything going on at Texas A&M lately? The Aggies can name their own score against Northwestern State, so how are Kellen Mond’s stats? He needs to be – say – 9-of-13 for 160 yards and two touchdowns before being taken out.
