2. The disparity is a good thing

Everyone likes to focus on the rankings – of course – but they’re just an educated guess and a snapshot of what’s possibly to come. However, the real hidden gem are the Points. How close are the teams to one another?

Last year, Alabama was the preseason No. 1 team by 99 points over Ohio State. Outside of No. 5 Clemson being five points ahead of No. 6 Penn State, there was a relatively wide margin along the way in the top ten. And then came the close calls and the teams all within a few points of each other throughout the rest of the top 25.

This year, Alabama is a mere 29 points ahead of Clemson for the top spot, and while there’s a big drop to No. 3 Georgia – who’s on an island, 79 points ahead of No. 4 Wisconsin – then it gets a bit tighter.

Ten teams got more than 1,000 points, with No. 11 Michigan State getting 877. Last year, just eight teams hit the 1,000 mark.

What does it mean? There are whole lot of very good teams this year, with two killers up top.
