5. Who is, technically, overrated?
O-VER-RATE-ED (clap, clap … clap clap clap)
Things have to be rated to then be overrated or underrated, and now, the AP types have rated the college football teams going into the season.
So who’s really overrated?
At least, according to the CFN Preseason Team Rankings – based on how good the teams are to start the season – the five most overrated teams are …
No. 11 Notre Dame
Much like the Coaches Poll – also putting the Irish at 11 – this is way high for a team that has to replace so many key parts on the offensive line and needs a stronger receiving corps and passing game. The Irish are 28th in the CFN rankings.
No. 16 TCU
The Horned Frogs have a whole lot of positives, but they’re breaking in new starting quarterback Shawn Robinson and needs the offense to be stronger to be a true top 16 team. Going into the season, they should be around the 20s.
No. 21 UCF
There’s a whole lot of love being given here based on last year’s production. New coach, a slew of new key players, and a new season. The D line and secondary – at least compared to the other top 25 teams – are just okay.
No. 22 Boise State
This is a very good team that will probably end up in a New Year’s Six game, but with a shaky receiving corps and O line, this should be an Also Receiving Votes team.
No. 30 Florida Atlantic
The Owls are in the mix in the Also Receiving Votes category, and to be fair, they’re going to be a tough call early on. Their starting 22 can hang with just about anyone, but the lines and receiving corps aren’t quite there to be this close.
