Buffalo (0-0) vs. Delaware State (0-0) Game Preview
Buffalo has the talent and the upside to not only win the MAC, but make everyone care while it’s doing it.
It’s not just because the team is going to be good, but it also has some real, live NFL prospects that the world has to care about. There might not be a Khalil Mack, but QB Tyree Jackson, WR Anthony Johnson, and LB Khalil Hodge will all be playing on Sundays in the near future.
First, they all get to show off in what should be a rough game for Delaware State. The Hornets went 2-9 last season, were obliterated by both West Virginia and Florida State, and now has to replace 11 starters.
One Reason Why Delaware State Will Win
Allowing big plays in the backfield was one of the slew of key problems last season, but the Hornets might catch a break when it comes to getting time to work.
Buffalo’s defense wasn’t bad, but the pass rush wasn’t there last season. Even with a talent in Chuck Harris at one end, the Bulls still managed just 53 tackles for loss on the season.
The Bulls will try to get to the quarterback more often, but it’ll be a work in progress.
One Reason Why Buffalo Will Win
The Hornets aren’t going to generate much of a pass rush, either.
The UB offensive line has to be able to get after it more for the running game, but the pass protection was fantastic and should be again.
Give this group of skill guys time to work, and it’s uh-oh time. Brian Cavicante can get behind the line for the DSU D, but there won’t be enough pressure to scare anyone.
What’s Going To Happen
Buffalo managed to open up the 2016 season with a loss to Albany, so …
Nope. It’s not going to happen.
The Bulls will be able to empty the bench early in the second half after jumping out to a big early lead. The Bulls will be able to call their shot.
