Air Force (0-0) vs. Stony Brook (0-0) Game Preview
This isn’t a layup for Air Force.
Stony Brook is coming off a ten-win season including a good 31-17 loss to USF along the way, and now it should be good enough to get back into the FCS playoffs.
This is a losable game for Air Force which might lead to a total disaster with four road games in the next six with home dates against Navy as a part of it and Boise State right after the run.
Can the Seawolves stop the Falcon offense? It’s an FCS vs. FBS battle worth paying attention to.
One Reason Why Stony Brook Will Win
The defense should be among the best in the FCS and more than good enough to hold up against what’s coming.
Eight starters return to a defense that allowed a mere 97 rushing yards per game and was amazing at generating pressure in the backfield. How do you get to the Air Force attack? Blast behind the line before it gets started. Stony Brook can do that.
The Falcons should be better offensively, but the line is coming off a mediocre year and four starters have to be replaced.
One Reason Why Air Force Will Win
Stony Brook might not ever have the ball.
The Seawolves might be great defensively, and they might have the experience and make-up to do a whole lot of damage to the Air Force offense at times. However, Stony Brook was awful defensively on third downs last season, allowing teams to convert 42% of their chances.
Obviously it’s a new year and these are new teams in a lot of ways, but Air Force has the style to dominate on the money downs and keep things moving. The Falcons were third in the nation in third down conversions and were seventh in the country in time of possession.
Air Force has to dominate the narrative from the start.
What’s Going To Happen
This is a Stony Brook team that’s more than good enough to pull out the upset in with a four quarter fight, but its offense won’t have the ball.
Air Force won’t be razor-sharp, and it’ll struggle at times to put the game away, but its offense will be on the field for close to 40 minutes and will wear down the Seawolves late.
The Falcons will survive, but it’s not going to be easy.
