The season keeps cranking up with a few of the big boys taking the field. It’s the Big Ten’s night for a while, but the Pac-12 and Mountain West take center stage.

This is all just for spits, giggles, and entertainment purposes only, however, just in case you dabble …

Let’s make this simple. Syracuse can’t lose to Western Michigan.

Syracuse is an ACC, Power Five program that beat Clemson last year – and hasn’t won since. Western Michigan was a successful program under PJ Fleck, but now it has to show that it’s good enough to win potentially win the MAC. It shouldn’t matter than it’s in Kalamazoo – win the game, Power Fiver.

This is the Dino Babers era right here. Lose to the MAC team, and with Florida State and at Clemson up soon, the season is going to be a problem. But this is when the offense will click, the Orange passing game will open it up late, and the five-point spread isn’t a problem. Thank you, everyone, for giving the world another point, coming down from six.

This isn’t an exaggeration; be shocked if WKU gains a rushing yard against Wisconsin. It’ll try, and it’ll make a few attempts, but it’ll mostly spend its time throwing and throwing and throwing some more against a Badger secondary that’s filling in some new parts.

Will Jonathan Taylor get the ball inside the five, and will he hang on to it? That’s the biggest thing that matters in this game. If he has solved his red zone fumbling issues, then he really is a Heisman candidate.

The Badgers will win with ease, but that 36 point spread is large considering WKU is good enough to think about winning the Conference USA title. The Badgers will hang up 40ish or so on the board, but they won’t put up 50ish. It’s just a question of whether or not WKU can score a few times.

I’m falling into the I Saw It With My Own Eyes trap. I know Colorado vs. Colorado State is a rivalry game. I know the Rams have a player in KJ Carta-Samuels who can wing it all over the yard. I know Colorado is just okay. However, that Buff offense should be able to fire at will on a Ram defense that didn’t have any answers for Hawaii until it was too late.

Not happy that the line went from 6 to 7.5, but I’m going with Colorado, anyway. Any team that can lose like that at home to Hawaii has issues.

That’s right, Army-Duke line, keep on rising. It started at 11.5, and it’s up to a gaudy 13 now. This is a much, much stronger Blue Devil team than the one that lost to Army last year, and the talent is there to make some noise in the ACC chase – or, at least, screw someone up. But Army is going to keep this within two scores.

Stanford always seems to come up with something special just when I think it’s about to be in trouble.

San Diego State has the veteran quarterback in Christian Chapman. It has a great running game despite the loss of Rashaad Penny. It has another great defense that should be able to keep most teams under wraps. But if Bryce Love goes crazy, and the Cardinal get up early, the Aztecs will be in big, big trouble.

I’ve backed off on the idea that San Diego State will win this straight up, but 14 points are way too many to give away. The total is a way-low 48.5 – it’s asking a lot for Stanford to cover and keep the under.

Michigan State in Week 1 is always my Lucy with the football. THIS time, the team is going to come out roaring and destroy someone. It has happened before, but normally the Spartans are relatively conservative, don’t screw up, and let the talent come through.

Utah State will be plucky. The offense has enough quirks to give the Spartans a nice run, but the defense won’t hold up in the second half after getting powered on. It’ll take the fourth quarter to get there, but MSU should cover the 23.5.

I still like the under – never change your first answer – but you’re not wrong if you’re going over the 50.5 mark. If the Spartans decide to unload, they might be able to take care of most of that themselves.

Be very, very, very careful of Monmouth, Eastern Michigan. The Eagles should win this, but at times it might be pulling teeth to score point.

Enough, Nevada. You’ve got this fancy, schmancy, Air Raid passing offense thing. Open it up and see what it can do against Portland State. This has to be an easy win with lots of yards for the Wolf Pack. If it’s not, there’s an issue.

AND FINALLY …

There’s a big of a buzz in the investment community over some guy who’s going massive on a parlay with Ohio State and Wisconsin as a part of it. If the Badgers do blow out the Hilltoppers, watch and see if that Ohio State-Oregon State line goes up a half point or so.
