What’s it going to take to get to the 2018-2019 College Football Playoff? Here are the five things Wisconsin has to do to get into the fun.
Path To The College Football Playoff: Wisconsin
And the best program over the last four years to not yet be in the College Football Playoff is … Penn State? Nah. USC? Nope. Of course it’s Wisconsin, who has come brutally close to getting in the final four, but has just missed out. Here are the five steps to finally get it done.
5. Seriously … LIMIT THE TURNOVERS
Somehow, the Badgers were able to go 12-0 in the regular season, and finish 13-1 with an Orange Bowl victory over Miami, despite giving the ball away a bit too much, and putting the ball on the ground too often.
Wisconsin was able to pounce on enough Jonathan Taylor red zone fumbles to be okay, and it survived three of the four multi-interception Alex Hornibrook games, but with a tougher schedule and a few huge replacements on defense – especially in the secondary – there can’t be 24 giveaways again.
How did the Badgers lose to Michigan in 2016? Three interceptions.
How did they gack the home dates against inferior 2015 Iowa and Northwestern teams? Four and five turnovers, respectively.
They got away with seven giveaways in the wins over the Hawkeyes and Wildcats last season – the defense bailed the offense out a bit – but in a year when they have to be close to perfect again, they can’t hurt themselves.
