The Right Play

Boise State: San Diego State is the best team in the West, but it has to go to Fresno State late in the season along with a date across the divisions to Boise State early on. Fresno State is solid, but it’s hardly a sure thing to do that again. Boise State should be able to get to the Mountain West title game and should be the league’s best team, but at 4/7, the value isn’t great. And, the Broncos have to beat …

The Best Value

Wyoming: The defense will be amazing again and the offense can’t help but be a wee bit better. Outside of Boise State, the Mountain division is gettable, and the Broncos have to come to Laramie. At 20/1, the odds are terrific considering UW is more than good enough to at least get to Mountain West title game.

Stay Away From …

Utah State: Why are the Aggies at 8/1? They’re okay, and they should be able to get to a bowl game, but they have to go to Wyoming, Colorado State and Boise State – the other three top teams in the Mountain. Uh oh. They do get Air Force at home, but that’s not enough.

The Top Longshot

Air Force: Don’t sleep on the Falcons. They might have had a tough time last season, and no one will pick them to take the Mountain, much less the conference title, but the offense has the upside to pick it back up again in a hurry, and the D should be better. Getting Boise State and Colorado State at home is a help, but they have to go on the road to Wyoming and San Diego State. Even so, at 50/1, they’re an interesting chance to take.
