The Right Play

Ohio: The Bobcats are SO due to turn the corner and go from bridesmaid to bride. They have the running attack, they get Buffalo and Akron at home – the two other strong teams in the East – and they’ve been really, really close to doing amazing things. The East isn’t as easy as it’s been over the last few years, but at 7/2, Ohio combines value with likelihood. However …

The Best Value

Buffalo: This might just be the MAC’s best team. At the very least, the Bulls have one of the strongest starting 22s highlighted by some elite talents with top 50 NFL Draft upside. The Bulls have to go to Ohio and Toledo, but at 10/1, and with their skill and experience, they’re worth the pick – if you don’t like Ohio.

Stay Away From …

Miami University: The RedHawks are okay, but they have to go to Buffalo and Northern Illinois. They get Ohio at home, but having to travel up the road to Akron might be a problem. The big issue is the value – they’re not worth it at just 6/1. It’s going to be a battle just to go bowling.

The Top Longshot

Akron: The Zips got to the MAC title game last season, and they might just have the makeup to surprise again. They’re not better than Ohio or Buffalo in the East, but Terry Bowden seems to find ways to get the job done, even if it’s not pretty. At 30/1, the odds are big compared to most MAC teams – there’s no respect, and this program seems to like it like that.
