The rankings are based on projected safest and most confident investment calls and predictions to the least confident. Note: North Carolina, Pitt and Virginia weren’t on the board.

1. Duke 6

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 7
This might be David Cutcliffe’s best team yet, but it’ll still be a battle to get past six wins. It’s all about the road game at Baylor. If the Blue Devils win that, they’ll go over.
CFN 2018 Duke Preview

2 Florida State 7.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 8
It’s Florida State – there will be a bounce back. Willie Taggart’s team will get past the seven-win mark, but it’ll take a home win over Florida in the regular season finale to get there.
CFN 2018 Florida State Preview

3. Louisville 7

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 7
If you’re going anywhere with this, go over. The Cardinals will lose to Alabama to start the season and will lose at Clemson, but they get Florida State and NC State at home.
CFN 2018 Louisville Preview

4. Boston College 6.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
Is QB Anthony Brown ready to go? BC should be strong no matter what – and it’s a soft opening to the season, but the schedule is going to be a bear.
CFN 2018 Boston College Preview

5. Clemson 11

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 11
Clemson is way too good to not hit 11 wins, but there’s almost certainly going to be a Syracuse-like misfire somewhere along the way. The Tigers have to go to Texas A&M, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and have to deal with South Carolina.
CFN 2018 Clemson Preview

6. Wake Forest 6.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
The Demon Deacons will be strong again, and they’ll go bowling, but they might need to battle to get there. The total will come down to the regular season finale at Duke.
CFN 2018 Wake Forest Preview

7. Virginia Tech 8.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 9
It’s a rebuilding season, but the schedule is just easy enough for the Hokies to roll past 8.5 wins. However, this is assuming a late-season home win over Miami, so if you love the Canes this year, go under.
CFN 2018 Virginia Tech Preview

8. Miami 9.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 9
It’s all about the opener against LSU. If you think the Canes will win, go with the over. If you like the Tigers, go under. The rest of the schedule isn’t that bad – there’s no Clemson from the Atlantic.
CFN 2018 Miami Preview

9. Syracuse 5.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
Will this finally be the year the Orange turn the corner under Dino Babers? It’ll take an upset at home over Syracuse, NC State, or both, but they’re overdue to get to six wins.
CFN 2018 Syracuse Preview

10. Georgia Tech 6.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
Always be afraid of Georgia Tech win totals. Either the team has its groove with the option offense, or it doesn’t. The sheepish prediction is six wins against a brutal schedule, but that’s assuming the Yellow Jackets lose to the better teams – the O is the factor that can overcome that.
CFN 2018 Georgia Tech Preview

11. NC State 7

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 7
If you think the Wolfpack will beat NC State on September 15th, go with the over. This projection is assuming a few weird losses – at North Carolina and at Syracuse – so if you like the over no matter what, go for it.

The rankings are based on projected safest and most confident investment calls and predictions to the least confident. Note: Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and Rutgers weren’t posted.

1. Michigan State 8.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 10
If the Spartans beat Arizona State in Tempe, they’ll get by 8.5 without a problem. They get Michigan and Ohio State at home, and miss Wisconsin from the West.
CFN 2018 Michigan State Preview

2. Ohio State 10.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 11
There will be a loss along the way, but hitting 11 is all about if the Buckeyes can win at TCU. Do that, and they’re over the 10.5.
CFN 2018 Ohio State Preview

3. Nebraska 6.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 7
The Huskers will be far better under Scott Frost, but they have to go on the road to face Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Ohio State and Iowa. Throw in dates with Michigan State, Colorado, and even Troy, and getting to seven wins will be a fight. But they’ll get there.
CFN 2018 Nebraska Preview

4. Purdue 6

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
This won’t be as good a Purdue team as last season’s version, but the schedule isn’t bad. If the Boilermakers beat Missouri at home on September 15th, they’ll go over the six.
CFN 2018 Purdue Preview

5. Michigan 9.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 9
Michigan will be far better, but it still has to go to Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State, and hosts Wisconsin and Penn State.
CFN 2018 Michigan Preview

6. Penn State 9.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 9
This is a tough one. Penn State will be terrific in a bit of a rebuilding year, and it gets Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin at home – but it has to win two of those. Going to Michigan is a concern. Go with the under, but don’t be happy about it.
CFN 2018 Penn State Preview

7. Northwestern 6

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 6
Really, how healthy is Clayton Thorson? That seems to be a bit of a concern about whether or not he’ll be 100% from the start, and Purdue and Duke are up right away. It’ll be tough to get to six wins.
CFN 2018 Northwestern Preview

8. Wisconsin 10

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 11
The Badgers are even better than they were last season, but ten wins is about right with dates at Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, and even Purdue. If they split the dates with the Nittany Lions and Wolverines, they’ll get to 11.
CFN 2018 Wisconsin Preview

9. Minnesota 6

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 5
Yeah, the projection is five wins, but that’s loose – the Gophers should get there fast, and then need a late upset to get to six.
CFN 2018 Minnesota Preview

10. Iowa 7.5

CFN Preseason Win Projection: 7
Iowa will be Iowa and will be a lock for seven wins, and the schedule is light enough to be excited about the over. Predict a few misfires along the way.
