Washington State Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
It’s Washington State, so the passing game will be fun and the offense will have its moments when it rises up and rocks. But it’s Washington State, so there will be times when the machine breaks down and the attack doesn’t go anywhere.
The defense will be strong under Tracy Claeys, and this should still be a bowl season, but last year was the year, and it didn’t happen when the chance was there to take the Pac-12 North. There will be upsets going both ways, but this season is about building towards 2019.
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 6.5
The Cougars have to beat Wyoming on the road to start the season, and they can’t slip against Eastern Washington. They’ll be 3-0 before losing at USC, and then comes the key stretch – Utah, at Oregon State, Oregon. Go 3-0, and it’ll be an interesting second half of the season. Lose two, and it’ll be a struggle.
Four of the last six games are at home, but Oregon, Cal, Arizona and Washington are all better than they were last season. Throw in road games at USC and Stanford, and that home date with the Huskies, and getting to nine wins will be a tough ask.
Assume that even if everything goes wrong, there will be a base of at least five wins, and then it’ll take a few big performances to somehow get over seven.
