Mississippi State Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

It’s so unfair that this Mississippi State team is in the SEC West with the schedule it has to face overall.

Joe Moorhead is a wonderful head coach, with the offensive coaching chops to take what Dan Mullen did to a whole other level. But it’ll be his defense that’s the star of the show throughout the season.

Nick Fitzgerald might not be the Nick Fitzgerald of old right away, but he’ll be more than good enough to make the offense even more explosive. The Aeris Williams will run for 1,000 yards behind a terrific line, and the receiving corps that was along for the ride so much last year will be stronger.

But it’s still the SEC West, and going on the road to Alabama and LSU might be just enough of a problem to stall any dreams of playing for the title. Even so, Moorhead will keep the success going, with a shot at a ten-win season in the bowl game.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 8.5

Going to Kansas State early on will be the big test to see just how salty this team is. Win there, and look out, because the Wildcats might just be good enough to play for the Big 12 title. There won’t be any issues with any of the other non-conference games.

Missing Georgia from the East is the big break overall, but they have to go on the road to face LSU and Alabama. They’ll lose those two, but the rest of the slate is more than favorable – considering MSU has to face the other good SEC West teams somewhere.

They’ll take two out of the three key home games against Florida, Auburn and Texas A&M. Good enough to handle everyone else on the slate – including Ole Miss in Oxford – the difference between eight and nine wins will be that date with K-State.
