Georgia Southern Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

Welcome back to the bowl world, Georgia Southern. At least, bowl eligibility.

Head coach Chad Lunsford got a half a season to get his feet wet, and now he’s got the veterans on both sides of the ball to expect a far, far stronger season from the very start.

The option attack might not be the dominant force that ran for 4,559 yards and 55 touchdowns in 2014, but it’ll blow past 3,000 yards for the first time since 2015. Add an improved offense to a D that wasn’t all that bad last season despite the lack of help from the other side, and all of a sudden, Georgia Southern will be a player in the Sun Belt race again.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 6.5

The oddsmakers like the idea of a massive turnaround from the 2-10 campaign, and why not? With home games against South Carolina State, UMass and South Alabama, and winnable road games against Texas State, New Mexico State, ULM, Coastal Carolina and Georgia State, it’s possible to get at least six wins out of that batch of games.

Throw in the curveball the option rushing attack throws at defenses, and teams like Arkansas State, Appalachian State and Troy – all home games – have to be scared, too.

There’s a sure loss at Clemson early on. Everything else? It’s all on the table.
