Preview 2018: Ball State Cardinals. Get Healthy, Get Wins

Ball State Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

The Cardinals will instantly be better because they won’t be so banged up.

The running backs are already solid, but getting back James Gilbert is a big deal, and having a quarterback like Riley Neal who can make the passing game go is everything.

There will be more offense, and the defense will at least be experienced enough to not get crushed in game after game.

It’s been a rough run so far under head coach Mike Neu, but he needs to catch a few breaks. With this schedule, that might be tough, but at least he’ll finally be able to show what he can do with a full squad – hopefully.

The silver lining to 2016 is the development of the young players. Now there’s depth, so it shouldn’t be so bad if disaster strikes again. No matter what, get ready for a whole slew of shootouts – and a better campaign, even if it’s not a winning one.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 4

There’s no reason to not beat Central Connecticut State and Kent State, but good luck finding another sure-thing win.

Ball State will be good enough to win at least one more game, likely two, but it’ll take a big upset to get by an Eastern Michigan at home or Miami University on the road.

Forget about road games against Notre Dame, Indiana, Ohio and Toledo, and good luck at home against Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, But WKU? That’s possible in Muncie, and so is Central Michigan on the road.

Five wins are possible if everyone stays in one piece, but bowl eligibility will require something a ton of luck. The program is due for some.
