Appalachian State Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
The machine won’t stop.
The defense will be every bit as tough as it was last season – a few strange clunkers aside – led by a secondary that will lock down on everything and everyone. Start there, mix in the running game that will keep on being nasty despite the loss of two key starters up front, and everything is in place to play for the Sun Belt title.
There will be a conference loss along the way – like in the opener against Arkansas State – but once the quarterback situation is settled, the offensive pop will improve over the second half of the season.
There will be a fourth straight bowl appearance, only this time it’ll come after winning the Sun Belt championship as the Mountaineers avenge their earlier season loss to the Red Wolves.
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 8.5
As good as ASU might be, there are still just enough question marks to forget about winning at Penn State to start the season. That’s about it.
The three-game second half road trip to Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina and Texas State won’t be that huge a problem – even if there’s a loss to the Eagles – and throw in a loss at Arkansas State along the way.
There will be a clunker, too – remember the meltdown against ULM last year? – but it’ll still be an eight-win season with a shot at double-digit victories with a Sun Belt title victory and a fourth straight bowl win.
