Tennessee Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
There’s way too much potential, athleticism, and talent on the Vols to go through another miserable 4-8 season – but it might be tough to do a whole lot better.
But there are also still way too many moving parts – quarterback, both lines, cornerback – coming out of spring ball to think anything is settled under the new coaching staff going into fall camp. Jeremy Pruitt, though, will make a difference right away, though, especially on the defensive side.
Be prepared for a painfully inconsistent season from the Vol offense – again – but at least it will start scoring more. The defensive changes will be the key, with some hard-nosed coaching minds in place to toughen the group up in a hurry.
It’ll be a bumpy ride as the tone becomes set for a stronger 2019. However …
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 6
Here’s the problem. Tennessee will be better, the offense will start to work again, and the defense will make a massive jump up in production, but it might not matter too much to the bottom line.
Starting with West Virginia is nasty – oh great; the Vols get to face Will Grier – but the SEC slate is the issue.
Getting by ETSU and UTEP won’t be a problem, and the wins will come late over Charlotte, Kentucky and at Vanderbilt – at least they’d better – but where’s the other win?
Florida at home? Alabama? At South Carolina, Auburn or Georgia?
A six-win stepping-stone season with this slate and this team would do just fine.
