Syracuse Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
There might be a few glaring holes – like the receiving corps and at linebacker – that will take all of fall camp and a few games into the season to figure out, but there’s a whole lot to like.
There will be a bit more balance from the offense – the running backs will be more involved – to take the pressure off of QB Eric Dungey, at least a little bit. The attack will still be all about throwing and throwing some more, but the spotty pass protection will once again be a problem.
The defense that fell off the map late last season – allowing 162 points over the last three games – will continue to struggle. There aren’t enough all-star playmakers, and the pass rush once again won’t get the job done.
Even so, the Orange will win its share of shootouts for the first bowl appearance in the Dino Babers era.
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 4.5
After two straight 4-8 seasons, assume that getting to four wins will be a lock, and then assume at least one more, more likely two.
The Orange won’t lose to Wagner, and they won’t lose to UConn. However, every other game will be a problem, including the opener at Western Michigan and home dates against North Carolina and NC State.
With this offense, it’ll bomb its way to a few upset wins, but there can’t be a slip up like there was against Middle Tennessee last season.
