Purdue Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

There are way too many X factors and concerns to expect a truly special season – like a run for the Big Ten West title. But that doesn’t mean the program is about to take any sort of a step back. The coaching is terrific and there’s enough talent there to get back to a bowl game – but it’s going to be a fight.

Can the offensive line get better with all with all of the experience? Really, will the veteran quarterbacks be healthy enough to last? Will wide receivers show up to worry about? Will the defense overcome the loss of so much talent and production, and still be able to crank up the pass rush?

Remember, it took a win over Indiana in the final week of the season just to get to six wins and bowl eligibility. This team isn’t going to be as good defensively, and the schedule will be a wee bit tougher.

If last year was a stunning breakthrough season, this will have to be another.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 7

The investment community will probably be more into Purdue’s potential than the reality might be.

Last year, the Boilermakers were able to beat Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa and Indiana along the way, and that’s not a given this time around.

Granted, Mizzou and the Hawkeyes have to come to West Lafayette, but figure at least one loss among the four games, more likely two – at least.

There’s no Louisville, but Boston College isn’t easy. There’s no Michigan, but instead of getting the Wolverines and Rutgers from the East like last year, there’s Ohio State and Michigan State. Yuck.

Between the Buckeyes, Spartans, the home game against Wisconsin, and the road game at Nebraska, that should be four losses right there – three at best – and that doesn’t even include all of those other road games.

Be happy with six regular season wins again.
