New Mexico State Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

Don’t expect too much of a drop-off, if any in the overall production.

Yeah, the three key parts of last year’s offense – QB Tyler Rogers, RB Larry Rose III, and WR Jaleel Scott – are gone, but as long as the line can field five decent live bodies, the attack will be okay.

The key is the defense that needs to replace just two parts will attack, attack and attack some more. For a program that wasn’t used to doing anything positive on that side of the ball for several years, it’s going to be strange seeing this group dominate once in a while.

Even with an easy schedule with ten of the games against teams that didn’t go bowling – and the other two against Wyoming and Utah State – the Aggies will come just short of bowl eligibility. But they’ll be entertaining again.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 5.5

There’s no game on the slate that NMSU can’t win, and that includes the trip to Minnesota. However, even with the defense finally showing up, and with an offense with so many great playmakers, there are only a few sure-thing wins.

The Aggies have the quirk of playing Liberty twice – they’ll split. They’ll beat Alcorn State, and they’ll win two games among the lot of at UTEP, at Louisiana, at Texas State and Georgia Southern.

Can they beat New Mexico again? Can they win so many close games? Five of the seven wins were by eight points or fewer, and now they have to do it all over again.

The five-win mark is the safe call, but with this slate, seven isn’t asking for too much.
