With the experience on both sides of the ball, and with a solid passing game that will keep things going in shootouts, they’ll hang around enough to battle hard in a whole bunch of interesting games.
They’re going to show that they belong among the lower level of the FBS teams, but they’re not going be a disaster. There will be at least five teams worse by the end of the season – potentially far more – but they’re not going to be a free space for most of the teams on the slate.

There were be a few brutally ugly blowouts, but the Flames will be good enough to get by Norfolk State and Idaho State, and they should be able to split the two dates with New Mexico State. Can they get one other win?
It’s not going to be easy. Forget about road games against Army, Virginia and Auburn, and beating North Texas and Troy will be a problem, but a five-win season is possible if the defense and pass rush come together and the passing attack can be on fire from the start.
