FIU Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
The coaching staff is solid, Butch Davis is terrific, and there are enough decent pieces to put together another strong season, but getting to eight wins will be a tall order.
Getting to another bowl game, though, is a must.
Beating UMass, Rice and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home are musts, and don’t knock that. For a program that hadn’t had a winning season since 2011, every victory is a big deal.
But there will have to be some surprises, like beating Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, and/or Marshall at home. Get one win out of that, come up with at least two wins out of road dates at Old Dominion, UTSA and Charlotte, this should be an okay – not amazing – Year Two under Davis.
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 6.5
There isn’t as much dead weight on the slate as there was last season, but with most of the big games at home, and enough layups to form a nice base, the bar of six wins is reasonable.
However, this isn’t as good a team as last year’s version, and that one was flaky enough to beat a few bowl teams, and lose to a few total clunkers. Expect more of the same.
