East Carolina Prediction: What’s Going To Happen
As bad as things were over the last two seasons, there’s hope for just enough of an improvement to think there’s something better coming around the corner.
The Pirate offense – even with the new quarterback and without a deep receiving corps – will still be terrific. With new defensive coordinator David Blackwell and plenty of experience returning, things should be just a wee bit better on the woeful D.
Don’t expect anything better than a 1-3 start, but the Pirates have to take down Old Dominion at home or else the season is effectively over. It’s going to be a rough run until late November, but there are enough winnable games to push for a five-win season.
Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 4.5
Here’s the problem. Even if East Carolina is far better, it still has to deal with North Carolina, at Virginia Tech, and at USF in September, and a midseason run of at Temple, Houston, UCF and Memphis. While a slew of those are at home, where are the wins going to come from?
Assume victories over NC A&T, Old Dominion and UConn at home, and that at least equals last season’s win total. Come up with one upset, get by either Tulane or Cincinnati on the road, and five wins are possible.
