2018 ACC Early Win Totals Released: Where's The Value?

Duke Blue Devils

This has the potential to be one of David Cutcliffe’s best Blue Devil teams. Can it take care of road games at Northwestern and Baylor early? Do that, and blowing past six wins might not be too much of an issue. Lose one of those two games, and it’ll take a win over Wake Forest, at Pitt, or an upset to get to seven wins.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Last season was a strange aberration. The Yellow Jacket offense will be a killer, the defense should be fine, and the team will get to a bowl game again. Tech will beat Alcorn State and Bowling Green, and it should handle Duke and Virginia at home. Throw in likely wins at USF and potentially against Pitt and Louisville on the road, and it’ll breeze past six wins.

Miami Hurricanes

The world will jump all over the Canes, believing it’ll be a repeat of last year’s success. With no Clemson on the schedule and Florida State at home, it might happen. Beating LSU to start the season is a must, but they have to go on the road to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech late. This might not be the obviously amazing year most will believe.

North Carolina Tar Heels

There needs to be a bounce back. Can the Tar Heels beat UCF at home? It could be a must with a ton of road games against okay teams that will need the win. Yeah, with East Carolina and Western Carolina at home, there will be a few sure-thing wins, but it’ll be a battle to get to six.

Pitt Panthers

Assume the Panthers will finally be able to turn it on enough to get to a bowl game. There’s no Clemson on the slate, and missing Florida State and Louisville is a good thing, too. Albany, at UCF, Syracuse, Duke and at Virginia – figure wins in at least four of those five games. Assume losses to Penn State, at Notre Dame and at Miami, and then hope for at least two other key wins – like at North Carolina and at Wake Forest.

Virginia Cavaliers

It’ll be easy to think Virginia will go back to being a mediocre win for just about every good team on the slate, but there’s still enough there to get close to bowl eligibility again. Beat Richmond, Ohio, and Liberty, split at home against North Carolina and Liberty, and hope for a win over an Indiana or Duke on the road, and/or Pitt at home. It’ll still be tough, though.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Everyone will be talking about Clemson from the Atlantic and Miami from the Coastal, but even in a rebuilding year, the Hokies will be one of the ACC’s biggest players. They’ll roll past William & Mary, East Carolina, at Old Dominion and Virginia, and should handle Boston College at home and North Carolina and Pitt on the road. Figure they’ll win two of the three against at Florida State, Notre Dame and Miami.
