Daily Five: Every Power Five Team's Sandwich & Letdown Games

SEC Sandwich/Letdown Games

The dangerous games in between bigger games the teams have to get up for.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 15 vs. Colorado State

The Rams might not be as good as they were last season, but Dan Mullen’s Gators have to be ready to gear it up against Jim McElwain’s old team with the SEC opener against Kentucky the week before and the trip to Tennessee to follow.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Oct. 6 vs. Vanderbilt

Tennessee might be rebuilding, but the game is obviously still a big deal for the Dawgs. That comes before hosting Vandy, and the showdown at LSU comes right after.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 17 vs. Middle Tennessee

Brent Stockstill and the Blue Raiders are going to be dangerous enough to pull off a shocker if the Cats aren’t paying attention in mid-November. They’ll be coming off of games against Georgia and at Tennessee, and with the Louisville rivalry date the week after.

Sandwich Game: Oct. 20 vs. Memphis

It’s true letdown time against a team that should be able to keep up the pace in an offensive firefight. Mizzou should be gassed with Georgia, at South Carolina and at Alabama in the three previous games, and with Kentucky right after.

South Carolina

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 15 vs. Marshall

Coming off the SEC East showdown against Georgia to kick off the conference chase, the Gamecocks will be a bit off no matter what. Marshall might just be the best team in Conference USA, and dangerous enough to pull off the upside before USC has to go to Vanderbilt.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 3 vs. Charlotte

It should be a layup, unless Miami transfer QB Evan Shirreffs turns out to be amazing. The problem? It’s true letdown time with Florida, at Georgia, at Auburn, Alabama, and at South Carolina in the five previous games.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 8 vs. Nevada

The Wolf Pack offense should be just dangerous enough to bomb away and make this a fight for the Commodores. It’ll be coming off the opener against Middle Tennessee – a dangerous date – and with a trip to Notre Dame to follow.

SEC West

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 10 vs. Mississippi State

It’s certainly not a sandwich game with Citadel coming right after, but after dealing with road games at Tennessee and LSU – albeit with a week off in between – having to face what should be a high-powered Joe Moorhead Miss State offense will be dangerous.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 15 vs. North Texas

The Hogs are going to Colorado State the week before – a potential problem – and have to deal with the SEC opener at Auburn to follow. North Texas has the offense and the experience to win if the Hogs are napping.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 17 vs. Liberty

Of course it’s a cupcake game against Turner Gill’s squad, but it’s also coming at a nasty time. Auburn won’t exactly be fully focused with a road game at Georgia before and with a trip to Alabama to follow.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Oct. 20 vs. Mississippi State

The Tigers can’t afford any sort of a letdown after going to Florida and hosting Georgia before the other Bulldogs come to own. Up next? After a week off, Alabama.

Mississippi State

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 3 vs. Louisiana Tech

By this point in the season, Louisiana Tech should have the offense humming under Skip Holtz. The SEC Bulldogs face the other Bulldogs after playing Texas A&M – and that coming off a trip to LSU – and with this supposed to be a warm-up for the road game at Alabama.

Ole Miss

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 22 vs. Kent State

The Golden Flashes still won’t have a huge offense, but it’ll be a true letdown game coming between Alabama and a trip to LSU.

Texas A&M

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 15 vs. ULM

The No. 1 sandwich game by any team this season. How’s this? The week before? Clemson. The week after? At Alabama. Jimbo Fisher needs to blow away the Warhawks here with minimal effort.
