They’re the games coaches fear and loathe the most. They’re the ones that they know they’re supposed to win, and the fans know they’re supposed to win, and worst of all, they’re the ones the team knows its supposed to win.

It’s all about maintaining focus. They’re the sandwich games coming after a big game and before another, and/or they’re the big letdown showdowns. Here are the ones each Power Five team has to watch out for.

ACC Sandwich/Letdown Games

The dangerous games in between bigger games the teams have to get up for.

ACC COASTAL

Boston College

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 24 vs. Syracuse

The Eagles don’t have a true sandwich game, but they do have a brutal late run of Miami, at Virginia Tech, Clemson and at Florida State before facing the Orange.

Clemson

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 15 vs. Georgia Southern

The Tigers have to deal with the annoying triple-option attack after going to Texas A&M and a week before kicking off the ACC season at Georgia Tech.

Florida State

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Oct. 20 vs. Wake Forest

It comes off a week off, but it’s also after the trip to Miami and with Clemson, at NC State and at Notre Dame up next.

Louisville

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 9 at Syracuse

It’s a late season dog day game coming six days after the trip to Clemson and before dealing with the ACC finale against NC State.

NC State

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Oct. 27 at Syracuse
The Orange get a good home game against the Wolfpack, welcoming them in right after their trip to Clemson and just before Florida State.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 22 vs. UConn

It’s a home date, but it also comes right after the Florida State game and before the trip to Clemson.

The Demon Deacons have to take down the Owls without a problem, but the game comes between home days against Notre Dame and Clemson.

Duke

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 10 vs. North Carolina

Obviously, the rivalry date isn’t a letdown game, but it does come between road dates at Miami and Clemson.

Georgia Tech

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 29 vs. Bowling Green
The Yellow Jackets have to be careful of being bombed on by the Falcons in between ACC showdowns against Clemson and at Louisville.

Miami

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Sept. 27 vs. North Carolina

The Canes don’t have a true sandwich game, and this is the ACC opener, but it’s coming off the fun local game against Butch Davis and FIU, and most importantly, it’s right before Florida State.

North Carolina

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 17 vs. Western Carolina
There shouldn’t be too much of a concern about the Catamounts in the paycheck cupcake game, but it comes after the trip to Duke and before the regular season finale against NC State.

Sandwich/Letdown Game: Nov. 17 at Wake Forest
It’s a late season road game that Wake Forest will probably need. It comes after the Panther home finale against Virginia Tech and before finishing up the regular season at Miami.

The Cavaliers don’t actually have a true sandwich or letdown game, but this is close – even though it’s the home finale – with road games at Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech to follow.
