What You Need To Know About The Louisiana Offense

– The Ragin’ Cajuns have to create an offensive identity right away. Offensive coordinator Rob Sale comes over with Billy Napier from Arizona State, with his specialty the offensive line. With eight starters returning and most of the skill guys back, the running game should be solid again – after averaging 184 yards per game – but the passing attack has to be more consistent.

– The quarterback battle is on. Levi Lewis is a smallish baller who took time throughout the end of his true freshman season, and he needs to be with Jordan Davis transferring. Andre Nunez is back after throwing for 783 yards in his little bit of time, and there are plenty of other options, too.

Lewis was the best player in the spring game, but the situation won’t be figured out until fall camp. The gig is still wide open.

– And here’s the reason to be fired up – the top eight receivers from last year are back. The passing game was hardly anything amazing, but the trio of Ryheem Malone, Keenan Barnes and Ja’Marcus Bradley should be among the Sun Belt’s best if the quarterback play is consistent.

– The backs are there to crank up more for the ground game, with Trey Ragas a great-looking back who can carry the attack at times. Now the line needs to find two new tackles for Sale to work with – the interior will be solid. The quarterbacks will help, but Ragas should be the one to start with.

Biggest Key To The Louisiana Offense

The pass protection has to be better. The Ragin’ Cajuns allowed a few too many tackles for loss, and struggled way too much in pass protection. And now, to make this worse, both starting tackles are done. The pass protection was a wee bit better after allowing 36 sacks in 2016, but the offense bogged down too often because of the 32 sacks allowed. The new coaching staff has to fix this fast.
