Preview 2018: Kentucky Wildcats: Will UK Ever Be Great?

Kentucky Prediction: What’s Going To Happen

There’s too much experience to not be better, but the record won’t necessarily reflect it thanks to a tougher schedule.

Here’s the problem. UK was able to get to seven wins last year, and that’s with Florida – even though it was a loss – Tennessee, Missouri and Vanderbilt all awful. There aren’t going to be many easy wins this year.

The Cats have to find the explosion, they have to be tougher up front defensively, more disruptive, and find more of a passing game pop – they’re not going to be able to win close games by being conservative this year. They’re going to need these veterans to be playmakers, and that’s not going to happen enough.

Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At … 6

Central Michigan will be okay, but that has to be a win. Murray State is the second win, and for this to be any sort of a decent season, there can’t be problems in Lexington against Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee. And then … where are the wins?

Can UK be good enough to beat Mississippi State and South Carolina at home? Maybe it splits, but it has to go on the road to play Florida, Texas A&M, Missouri, Tennessee and Louisville, and gets Georgia at home.

It’ll be a stretch to get to six wins and a bowl game, but there are just enough good pieces in place to scratch and claw to get there.
