Preview 2018: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Best Coastal Carolina Offensive Player

WR Malcolm Williams, Sr.
The Chanticleers needed more playmakers, and they got a good one in the 5-10, 185-pound JUCO transfer who turned into an all-star on the field and in the classroom. The CCU passing game might have been a bit spotty, but Williams was steady as the season went on, finishing with 43 catches for 793 yards and seven scores, averaging well over 18 yards per catch.

2. C Trey Carter, Soph.
3. RB Marcus Outlow, Sr.
4. OT Steven Bedosky, Jr.
5. QB Kilton Anderson, Jr.

Best Coastal Carolina Defensive Player

LB Silas Kelly, Soph.
The 6-4, 225-pounder might not be all that big, but he can move. He played a little bit of receiver in high school, and showed off the speed with great range making 75 tackles with 1.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. On the weakside, he’s ideal to hang in pass coverage and should be used more to get into the backfield.

2. S Fitz Wattley, Sr.
3. DE Myles White, Jr.
4. DT C.J. Brewer, Soph.
5. CB Preston Carey, Jr.

Key Player To A Successful Season

QB Kilton Anderson, Jr.
Or junior Austin Bradley, or freshman Bryce Carpenter, who was solid at times throughout spring ball. The Chanticleers need stronger, steadier quarterback play, and they need one guy who can take the job by the horns, keep the chains moving, and come up with more scoring drives.

Anderson is the veteran, but Bradley is a decent option, and Carpenter might turn out to be too good to keep out of the mix. As long as the offense is averaging more than 345 yards per game, the QB will be doing his job.

Key Game To The Coastal Carolina Season

at Louisiana, Sept. 22
It’s a rough start to the season with five road games in the first eight dates. Coming off what should be a win over Campbell, the Chanticleers need to start out the Sun Belt season with a road win, or else have to come through at Troy the following week and start 0-2 with Appalachian State, Arkansas State, and Georgia Southern still on the slate.
