2018 NFL Mock Draft: Final Version

Mock drafts are like noses. Everyone has one, and they all 1) smell, 2) blow, 3) have too many ugly picks.

Rim shot.

So to cut to the chase – because you have better things to do with your time – here’s what’s going to happen once all the fun and festivities kick in down in Jerry World.

Of course there will be trades to screw this all up, but here are the correct answers …

2018 NFL Draft Prospects
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | OGs | OTs
DTs | DEs | LBs | Safs

1. Cleveland Browns

The Pick Will Be: QB Sam Darnold, USC

The Browns aren’t going with Baker Mayfield. They can’t. Even the Browns have to take a break from being the Browns at some point.

They’re not going with Josh Allen, and they’re not going to mess with not getting the guy they want at the four and take Saquon Barkley here. They’ll take Darnold, he’ll throw 21 interceptions in his first season, and then he’ll be good.

2. New York Giants

The Pick Will Be: RB Saquon Barkley, Penn State

But … don’t fall off of your chair is Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson is the shocker. New York likes to do things its own way, and getting a cornerstone foundation for the franchise isn’t crazy. Also don’t be shocked if NC State DE Bradley Chubb is the pick – the Giants won Super Bowls by repeatedly hitting Tom Brady.

However, if the Giants don’t take Barkley – after all of the hype and all of the excitement – woe to the guy they do select. He’d better be Hall of Fame good to placate the fan base.

3. New York Jets (from Indianapolis)

The Pick Will Be: qb Josh Rosen, UCLA

This has been the smokescreen all along. For all the negativity, and all of the concerns, and all of the bad press about Rosen actually having a thought in his head, this is the right pick at the right time. He’s the best passer in the draft, he can handle himself in a major market, and he’s the star. Broadway Josh Rosen will be terrific.

4. Cleveland Browns (from Houston)

The Pick Will Be: DE Bradley Chubb, NC State

The word you’re looking for, NFL, is yeeeeeeeeeeesh. Assuming the Browns don’t trade out of this to some quarterback-starved team, they’re taking Chubb, they’re putting him on the other side of Myles Garrett, and good luck stopping this for the next ten years.

5. Denver Broncos

The Pick Will Be: QB Josh Allen, Wyoming

Denver hasn’t been all that bad with awful quarterbacking for the last few years, and they won a Super Bowl with Didn’t You Used To Be Peyton Manning. The franchise can wait it out for Allen to grow into his tools. It’ll take a little while, but there’s too much upside not to take the shot.

6. Indianapolis Colts (from Jets)

The Pick Will Be: OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame

The Colts will want Chubb, they need Georgia LB Roquan Smith, and they’ll take Nelson. Andrew Luck will eventually return and be good again. Nelson is the cornerstone blocker who’ll help The Franchise stay alive.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Pick Will Be: S Derwin James, Florida State

It’ll be a safety. Either it’ll be James, or Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick. There’s no wrong answer, but James is more of the prototype, and if it’s possible, he’ll be a steal here. He’s the tone-setter the Buccaneer secondary needs.

8. Chicago Bears

The Pick Will Be: CB Denzel ward, ohio State

The Bears need an upgrade. If they do this right, they’ll go with Derwin James or Minkah Fitzpatrick – whichever one is on the board – and they’d love it if Quenton Nelson fell this far. Instead, they’ll try upgrading an okay-not-fantastic secondary. However, Virginia Tech’s Tremaine Edmunds and Georgia’s Roquan Smith will be right there for the taking at inside linebacker – watch out for Edmunds.

9. San Francisco 49ers

The Pick Will Be: lb Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia tech

The 49ers need a killer pass rusher, and while that might not exactly be Edmunds out of the box, the young guy has freakish talent to potentially be the new big-time star on the defensive side to go along with Jimmy Garoppolo taking over the O.

10. Oakland Raiders

The Pick Will Be: LB Roquan Smith, Georgia

Right pick, right need, right time. The Raiders need inside linebacker help, but they also need a killer at corner. They can sit on this pick, knowing they’ll get either Ward, Edmunds or Smith and be just fine.
