All You Really Need To Know About Texas Tech (24-9)

(Big 12), RPI: 23. 3-seed

It was a rough end of the regular season for the Red Raiders, losing four straight before making a decent run in the Big 12 Tournament, finally losing to West Virginia by three. But the makeup is there to make some noise, led by Kennan Evans and his 17.6 points per game, and helped by 11-point-per-game scorers Jarrett Culver and Zhaire Smith.

The problem is the lack of scoring depth. There’s not enough happening on the boards, there aren’t enough threes, and its just an okay free throw shooting team – even though the team gets to the line a whole lot. However, the defense was one of the best in the Big 12, especially against the three.

All You Really Need To Know About Stephen F. Austin (28-6)

(Southland), RPI: 104. 14-seed

The Lumberjacks are making their fifth appearance in the NCAAs after getting by SE Louisiana to take the Southland title. The high-powered team spreads around the offensive wealth for one of the nation’s best-shooting attacks.

The real reason to worry? Steals. SFA leads the nation in them and comes up with a whopping 20.25 takeaways per game. They also give them up, too, and they commit a whole lot of fouls, but they’re a fun, frenetic team with the make-up to pull off something big.

What’s Going To Happen

The Lumberjacks are going to crank up the defensive pressure, but Texas Tech doesn’t screw up all that much – there aren’t a lot of turnovers from the Red Raiders.

More importantly, Texas Tech has the defense, and it’ll keep SFA from doing much of anything outside. It’ll be a back-and-forth game for a while, but when needed, the Red Raider D will take over.
