All You Really Need To Know About Texas A&M (20-12)

(SEC), RPI: 29. 7-seed

It was a rough run to close things out, losing four of the last seven games including a heartbreaker to Alabama in the SEC Tournament, but the makeup is there to be an annoying, tough team to bounce out early. With excellent size, the Aggies are among the nation’s leaders in rebounds and blocked shots – teams without any interior bulk will have a big problem.

They can’t make free throws, there’s not a lot happening from the outside, and there are too many turnovers, but no one in the tournament will outrebound them. However, there will be problems and issues against anyone who can consistently hit from the outside.

All You Really Need To Know About Providence (21-13)

(Big East), RPI: 32. 10-seed

A great run in the Big East – and an overtime loss to Villanova in the conference final – were enough to slide into the tournament. This might not be a high-powered scoring team, but it’s very, very deep with a great bench, with ten players seeing meaningful minutes.

It’s not a team full of offensive pop from three, and the defense is just okay inside, but it’s a great group at keeping outside shooting teams in check. There are plenty of steals, they make just about every free throw, and they’re just good enough inside defensively to hold their own.

What’s Going To Happen

Texas A&M will killed the Friars on the boards, and dominate on the inside. There will be a few too many turnovers from the Aggies, but defense will clamp down in the second half as Providence tries – and fails – to hit from outside.

It’ll come down to who gets the second chance points and does more on the move. That’ll be A&M on both fronts, it’ll struggle to put the game away on the free throw line.
