All You Really Need To Know About Michigan
The Jordan Poole miraculous last-second three put Michigan into the Sweet 16, and now the West is wide open for the taking. The Wolverines were outplayed by Houston. They were outrebounded, weren’t as good from the field, and got hit with more fouls. But they moved the ball around a bit better, and was bailed out by Poole.
The Wolverines continue to be great at not giving the ball away, the Big Ten’s best defense keeps teams under wraps, and they take – and make – a whole lot of threes, and they’re hot. The momentum from the end of the regular season has carried over.
All You Really Need To Know About Texas A&M
In one of the most shocking performances of the tournament, Texas A&M owned North Carolina from the start in a 94-71 win. The Aggies hit 42% from three, outrebounded the top rebounding team in the country 50 to 36, and clamped down defensively early on.
The Aggies are fantastic on the boards – as North Carolina found out – great on the defensive interior, and clamp down well from the outside. They turn it over too much and they can’t hit free throws, but they make up for it by turning up the defensive intensity.
What’s Going To Happen
Texas A&M wins this on the boards. Michigan has handled good rebounding teams before – Michigan State in the Big Ten tournament – but the Aggies are eating up everything. The Wolverines will be outrebounded by at least ten – they’re not going to get enough second-chance points.
The Aggies will turn it over a bit too often, but they won’t be killed on the line – Michigan isn’t great at free throws – pulling off a defensive win.
