All You Really Need To Know About Loyola Chicago
Just when it seemed like the magic for Loyola-Chicago was about to run out – winning three NCAA Tournament games by a total of four points – the team turned it up a few notches.
Kansas State was supposed to be able to out-Loyola, Loyola, with the way it plays tough on both ends of the floor and with a good ability to come up with every clutch play at the key moment. But the Ramblers started out hot, got up 36-24, and cruised from there.
Loyola can’t do much on the offensive boards – it only came up with four again the Wildcats – so it’ll need to hit 57% from the field again like it did to get to San Antonio.
And now the national spotlight will really be on.
It’s an amazing story for a team that really is good and really does have the type of talent and moxie to keep this all going. But it’ll have to keep hitting its free throws – a problem all year, but not against Kansas State – and it’ll have to get ready for a bit of a shootout.
All You Really Need To Know About Michigan
The Wolverines won ugly.
Just when it seemed like they had Florida State dead and buried, the defense broke down, the offense sputtered and struggled, and it was a fight to put the game away.
Whatever. The Big Ten champs are in San Antonio.
And they did it after only hitting 4-of-22 from three and 39% from the field.
Mo Wagner couldn’t buy an outside shot – going 0-for-7 from three – and they got outrebounded, but they cranked up the defense, got fouled a whole lot, and they got the job done even though they didn’t play all that well. At least, compared to how they played against Texas A&M.
This isn’t a great rebounding team, and it struggled on the free throw line, but it has to start scoring and keep it all going. Force the Ramblers to get into a shootout, start hitting the threes early, and get into a groove.
It’s a better passing team than Loyola, and it makes fewer mistakes. That has to come through.
What’s Going To Happen
It’s really, really not fun picking against Loyola.
There’s a difference between getting to the Final Four, and then having to deal with a rested power team with a week to prepare. Loyola is the real deal, but Michigan will bomb its way into the national title game.
The Wolverines can hit the three – and more of them – and won’t lose on the board. They’ll clamp down when needed, they won’t be so bad from outside like they were against Florida State, and they’ll keep this great run going.
