All You Really Need To Know About Kentucky
How happy is the fifth-seed in the South? The path couldn’t have been nicer after both Virginia and Arizona got bounced out of the first round, and now the Wildcats have to take advantage.
As Arizona found out, Buffalo was good, and UK stepped it up in a 95-75 win. In a brilliant display of firepower, the Cats hit 56% from the field, rebounded everything, and roared from three.
This isn’t a young team anymore – the SEC champ is battle-tested. The interior defense is impressive, hitting free throws isn’t a problem, and the offense overcomes an inability to hit from three by stepping it up on the defensive side.
All You Really Need To Know About Kansas State
It really, really wasn’t pretty. UMBC couldn’t hit an open shot, it couldn’t hit a layup, and it couldn’t hit its free throws, but Kansas State wasn’t a whole lot better in a brutal 50-43 win. Yeah, the Wildcat defense was good, but the O hit just 1-of-12 from three.
The Wildcats play a tough, nasty defense, forcing plenty of turnovers and never giving up on a play. This is a hard-nosed team that doesn’t rebound, doesn’t do enough from three, and commits too many fouls – and still finds a way to get the job done.
What’s Going To Happen
Kentucky is doing its thing at the right time. It’ll dominate Kansas State on the boards, guard the three well, and will make the shots that UMBC didn’t and couldn’t. The talent will rise up in the second half.
