All You Really Need To Know About Kansas State
Helped by Barry Brown’s 18 points, Kansas State was aggressive and terrific from the start in the 69-58 win over Creighton. The Wildcats were great from three, overcoming a bad day on the boards to fight their way to the win. The big difference? They made 14 free throws. Creighton four.
The Wildcats play a suffocating brand of defense, but they don’t do much of anything on the boards. They can come up with the big steals, they’re great from the field, and they won’t beat themselves.
All You Really Need To Know About UMBC
The Retrievers didn’t just pull off a historic win over Virginia to be the first 16 to beat a 1; they dominated in a 74-54 destruction. Jarius Lyles scored 28 points, the team hit half of their threes, and the defense destroyed the Cavaliers, allowing just 4-of-22 from three.
How for real is this thing? They’re great from three, they’re aggressive on the ball and force a ton of steals, and don’t make a whole lot of mistakes. They’re not good from the free throw line, and there’s not a lot of big things happening on the inside, and now, Kansas State is going to take them seriously.
What’s Going To Happen
UMBC is really that good, and Kansas State might just be the type of team it can beat – mediocre offense, all defense. The key will be the threes. The Retrievers have to keep bombing away, but the Wildcats are strong at guarding from the outside.
The magic will stop here, but UMBC will make it a fight to the finish. This will be kept just low scoring enough to keep it close, with the three throwing a scare into the Wildcats.
