All You Really Need To Know About Creighton (21-11)
(Big East), RPI: 45. 8-seed
Third in the Big East regular season, the Bluejays struggled late, losing four of their last six – but with a win over Villanova during the stretch. Marcus Foster is one of the best pure scorers in the tournament, leading a deep team with nine players seeing meaningful minutes.
One of the best passing teams in the country, it also hits the boards hard and hits its free throws – it just doesn’t take a lot of them. There isn’t enough defensive interior presence, and there aren’t enough takeaway, but scoring isn’t an issue.
All You Really Need To Know About Kansas State (22-10)
(Big 12), RPI: 50. 9-seed
The scoring duo of Dean Wade and Barry Brown – each averaging 16.5 points per game – is just enough carry the rest of the offense, but it’s the defense that gets the job done for the Wildcats. One of the Big 12’s best scoring Ds, K-State comes up with a ton of steals and is great at defending from beyond the arc.
For a team this tough, though, it has a hard time hitting the boards on either end – it gives up way too many second chances. It’s about slowing things down just a bit, relying on the defense, and hoping Wade and Brown can go off.
What’s Going To Happen
Do you like the good scoring attack or the great defense? Creighton will destroy Kansas State on the boards, and it’ll do its part from three against a Wildcat team that’s great from guarding teams from beyond the arc.
Can Kansas State do enough to overcome a stretch of Creighton threes in the second half? There won’t be any second chance points for the Wildcats, but there won’t be any big mistakes, either.
The Bluejays do too many things right – and they can score.
