All You Really Need To Know About Florida (20-12)
(SEC), RPI: 47. 6-seed
Solid all season long, the Gators finished third in the SEC regular season, but got knocked out of the conference tournament by Arkansas. With four 11-plus point-per-game scorers, there’s just enough balance to make up for the lack of scoring depth from the bench, but the team mostly relies on its defense.
The assists aren’t there, but the offense doesn’t turn the ball over. The defense can be terrific at times, but it doesn’t defend the three all that well. It’s a careful team that doesn’t screw up a whole lot, but it’ll need its stars to get hot to make any sort of a deep run.
All You Really Need To Know About UCLA (22-11)
(Pac-12), RPI: 22. 11-seed
The Bonnies managed to get by UCLA despite not being able to shoot from three and only getting points – 26 – from Courtney Stockard. This isn’t a dangerous offensive team, and it commits way too many fouls, but it’s feisty enough, fearless, and doesn’t turn the ball over.
They get the job done with defense – annoying UCLA in the clutch, and pulling away in the final moments with the game on the line. They hit their free throws, and the Bruins didn’t.
What’s Going To Happen
Florida does St. Bonaventure better than St. Bonaventure.
A team with a great offense will take down the Gators, with a team that can hit the three the right one to get it done – and that’s not the Bonnies.
The Gators will be able to come up with their share of big runs to push the pace just a wee bit, and they’ll own the boards. Unlike UCLA, Florida will hit its free throws.
