Daily Five: What Mattered From The NFL Combine?

3. The Shaquem Griffin show

Of course what Shaquem Griffin did was amazing, especially considering he wasn’t even initially given an invite.

But here’s the thing …

Didn’t anyone watch this guy actually play college football?

Look, the story is, of course, inspiring, but he showed you can do anything … as long as you’re one of the greatest athletes in the world.

The bench press was amazing – doing 20 reps, causing the room to explode in applause as everyone gave him a … – and the 4.38 was special, but that’s Shaquem Griffin.

The guy has been among the most disruptive and talented players in the country over the last few seasons. And yet, it seemed like a surprise when he didn’t fall flat on his face.

Over the last two seasons, he came up with 166 tackles with 18.5 sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss with four forced fumbles.

And yeah, with one hand, he came up with three picks and 16 broken up passes, too.

But the NFL is about harsh reality. It stinks, and it’s not fair, but not having a hand makes him around a fourth round pick – at best – as an undersized linebacker and core special teamer.

He’s a football player. He got past not having one hand. Now the rest of the world has to, too.
